DIY How to Replace a Manual Transmission?

.Remove the shift knob and console trim plate.

.Secure your vehicle on a level surface, making sure your car will not roll or lean too much when jacked up.

.Use a jack to lift up the front of your vehicle.

.Secure the vehicle with jack stands on both sides for safety before starting any work. Do not rely on the jack to hold the vehicle up while working.

.Disconnect the speedometer cable. Label wire connectors for installation reference and remove them from the transmission unit.

.Remove the driveshaft.

.Support the transmission with a jack. Remove the transmission mounts and cross member.

.Remove the shift levers from the side of the transmission.

.Disconnect the back drive rod from the bell crank.

.Remove the bolts from the shift control assembly and carefully lower the assembly until the shift lever clears the rubber shift boot. Then remove the assembly from the car.

.Remove the transmission-to-bell housing bolts and remove the transmission from the car.

.Lift the transmission and insert the main shaft into the bell housing.

.Install and torque the transmission-to-clutch housing bolts.

.Install the shift lever and side cover.

.Connect the back drive rod to the bell crank.

.Install the cross member and transmission mounts.

.Install the driveshaft.

.Connect the speedometer cable and wiring.

.Fill the transmission with the specified fluid type and quantity, install the console trim and shift knob. Adjust the linkage.
